THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO ARTISTS WHO SING FREEDOM SONGS IN WEST PAPUA.
This is young West Papuan musician, Kris Douw. He has written several powerful protest songs against Indonesia’s illegal millitary occupation in West Papua.
Kris was severly beaten this morning (around 08.00 Saturday, November 21, 2020) by Indonesian special forces In Nabire, West Papua at the Kodim Complex. He suffered injuries to the face and body which resulted in a number of broken teeth.
Shame on the Indonesian forces who carried out this cruel attack! This only goes to show the power that music holds. Its message can make any Indonesian soldier tremble with fear at the idea of Papuans mobilizing and becoming inspired after listening.
So please musicians and songwritters worldwide, lets use our talents and privileges to expose whats really going on in Occupied-West Papua through our weapon of choice: MUSIC. Because for West Papua doing this can result in them being tortured or murdered.
