From West Papua, Kurdistan, Kanaky,ย Aboriginal sovereignty to Palestine. One Struggle! One Fight!
In a fast-paced digital world, our reactions to current issues are happening in the blink of an eye.ย One click is enough to unleash anger, dissatisfaction, or sympathy on social media.ย
With the ease of expressing an opinion through our fingertips from the comfort of our space, many believe that we are contributing to change. But is that true?ย
Or are we just creating noise in a virtual space, more akin to dust blown away by the wind, without any real impact?
Think about this: in an age where fake news and truth compete in a fierce race on social media, itโs easy to get caught up in emotional outbursts.
We are angry at injustice, touched by heartbreaking stories, and sometimes, we are so carried away by waves of sentiments.
When this happens, social media turns into a sea of angry flames, with each individual trying to ignite their own spark.ย
But does our anger have a positive effect? Or is it just a digital rocket launched without a clear target, without knowing who it will hit, and how it will change the situation?
Worryingly, we may be caught up in โflash activismโ โ hitting the โlikeโ, โshareโ button, or scathing comments in support or opposition to an issue.ย
In those few moments, we feel that it is enough to just play the role of โdigital activistโ that what has been done is enough. However, here lies the danger: do we really understand the issues we support or oppose?ย
Or are we simply projecting emotions and building an identity on images and viral phrases without realising that we are drowning in the current of uncertain trends?
Social media can be a starting point but can not be the final destination. This is because, if we just stop there, what is the difference between us and a shopper who only looks at the goods from the window without ever going into the store and really making a decision?
So, a more important question arises: How can we ensure that our voice on social media is not just passing noise in a void?
