Inter Island Collective and Global London Calling for West Papua

📢 December 1st Global Flag Raising for West Papua 🇨🇺

On December 1st, 1961, the Morning Star flag was raised for the first time as West Papua’s national flag. That day marked the beginnings of West Papua as a sovereign state with its own national flag, anthem, and state seal.

Formally, the colony of Dutch New Guinea, Indonesia, controversially took control of West Papua in 1963.

Brutal civil conflict has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives through combat and deprivation, and tens of thousands have been internally displaced.

This year is the 63rd anniversary of the flag being raised.

As tangata moana, tangata whenua, and peoples of the Pacific, we raise the Morning Star flag in solidarity with our West Papuan family fighting for their right to self-determination

With love, inter island, Collective
