“I was very pleased to welcome the Permanent People Tribunal report launched in the UK Parliament last Tuesday, along with IPWP Chair Alex Sobel MP. This is an important judgment for West Papua as we fight against Indonesia ecocide”. Said Benny Wenda in his speech in the British Parliament on last Tuesday, 26th November 2024 at the Portcullis House in the UK Parliament.
The event organised by the All Party Parliament for West Papua and the Chairman of the International Parliamentarians for West Papua (IPWP) Alex Sobel (British Member of Parliament) at 14:00 – 15:00 Room Q (Portcullis House) to welcome the academic outcome of the Permanent People’s Tribunal report at the Queen University London about West Papua case Indonesia government intentionally destroyed West Papua third biggest rainforest in the world and Indonesia government responsible of the ecocide genocide need to be bring to the International Court of Justice for illegal plundering West Papua resources and abused power ethnic cleansing in West Papua where Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal come to conclusion that Indonesia is session on state, military, multinational cooperation responsible for environmental violence in West Papua.
The Tribunal was to establish the truth about the criminal events in West Papua and the repression taking place in West Papua, Papua, but also to reaffirm their inalienable rights regarding land and the environment. West Papua represents an exemplary case of contemporary denial of the right of self-determination, that principle that was recognised in the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Peoples which gave birth to this Tribunal in 1979. The Tribunal considered that Indigenous West Papuan have suffered painful dispossession on their freedom, no free movements, Indonesian only exploited West Papua since Indonesia annexation in West Papua. Second, the controversial annexation referendum in 1969 manipulated by the Indonesia terrorist state coloniser to achieve its own purposes and failed to guarantee West Papua to be free from Indonesian occupation. Third, concrete data of Human Rights Abuses by the Indonesia coloniser and occupier in West Papua since 1963 until now. Fourth, ecological degradation from Indonesia terrorist state and corporate projects part of the, “slow mottion on going genocide in West Papua by the Indonesia government”. Fifth, the Tribunal hear implication of the business-state military with regime of terror, militarisation collaboration with the cooperation Freeport McMoRan, British Petroleum, Unilever, Black Rock directly implicated in the violence perpetrated against the Indigenous West Papuan, including training Indonesian military and police to killed indigenous West Papua for the multinational corporation benefits.
This meeting is jointly hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group and the Centre for Climate Crime and Climate Justice, Queen Mary University of London. It will focus on the Permanent People’s Tribunal on the case of West Papua which took place in June 2024.
The UK-based All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) in West Papua brings together over fifteen MPs from parties across the UK’s political spectrum.
The APPG works to coordinate Parliamentary pressure on the UK government over its support for Indonesia’s occupation of West Papua.
