West Papua and Kurdish Communities with Thousands of people take to the streets in London for Rojava

WestPapuaNews.Org Last Sunday, 1st February 2026 Once again, thousands of people from Kurdistan came together in London, sending a message of “continue the resistance” until Rojava’s status is guaranteed.

WestPapuaNews.Org West Papua joined with the thousands of people from Kurdistan gathered in London in front of Marble Arch Station chanting slogans such as “End the war against the Kurds” and “Defend Rojava.” Despite heavy rain, British friend for Kurdish, West Papua for Kurdish, internationalist activist and people from Kurdistan, young and old, workers and shopkeepers alike, once again came together in the square chanting “Bijî Berxwedana Rojava! Bijî Berxwedana Rohjilat.”

WestPapuaNews.Org The demonstration, attended by young people wearing YPG uniforms and women in traditional clothing, began with one minute’ silence in memory of the Kurdistan Freedom Martyrs, accompanied by the anthem Ey Reqîb.

WestPapuaNews.Org A rally was held at Trafalgar Square. A statement was read. It emphasised that the attacks on Rojava are not a “security operation,” but an open occupation and annihilation policy aimed at crushing the Kurdish people’s will for freedom. The statement added: “The Turkish state and the jihadist gangs affiliated with it are carrying out a planned assault aimed at destroying the gains of the Kurdish people from Aleppo to Kobane. The Rojava Revolution, which is based on women’s freedom, equality among peoples, and democratic self-administration, is therefore being targeted. We say clearly: Rojava is not alone. Rojava is Kurdistan; it is the honor of the peoples of Kurdistan.”

WestPapuaNews.Org Speakers underlined that “the siege of Kobanê and the prevention of civilians’ access to water, food, and medicine constitute war crimes,” adding: “The silence of international powers makes them complicit in these crimes. As peoples from all four parts of Kurdistan, we will never accept these attacks. We do not recognize the imposed jihadist mentality or the politics of denial and destruction. We will not step back from the struggle until our legitimate rights are guaranteed.”

WestPapuaNews.Org Baran Karakoçan, speaking on behalf of Civaka Azad, pointed out that decisions to annihilate the Kurds have been made many times throughout history. Karakoçan said: “But they have never succeeded. Today as well, the resisting fighters have stopped the decision to annihilate the Kurds through their resistance. America, France, and many states say they are guarantors of the agreement. From here, we call on them: stand by your word. We do not accept the negative decisions you have made about the Kurds and Kurdistan. We are not asking you for defense or support. We all say together: recognize the status of Rojava.”

WestPapuaNews.Org Addressing the Turkish state as well, Karakoçan said: “End the policy of hostility you are waging against the Kurds and Kurdistan. If you want peace, recognize the status of Rojava. Take official and concrete steps regarding the process in Northern Kurdistan. Release Leader Apo from the Imralı prison. Know this: you cannot break our will. We have promised our martyrs. Even if the whole world attacks us, we will not abandon our ideal of a free life and a free homeland. Either freedom or freedom.”
