Three Kurdish Women Sentenced to Death for Humanitarian Work
Over 112,800 People Demand Their Immediate Release

Three Kurdish Iranian women—Pakhshan Azizi, Sharifeh Mohammadi, and Verisheh Moradi—have been sentenced to death by the Islamic Republic of Iran for their humanitarian efforts and defence of women’s and refugees’ rights.

Pakhshan Azizi, a 40-year-old Kurdish woman, was arrested for helping refugee women and children and sentenced to death after an unfair trial. She only met her lawyer on the day of the court session. Reports indicate she has been subjected to torture, threats, and extreme isolation in prison.

Sharifeh Mohammadi, 45, a women’s and labour rights activist, was also sentenced to death. Her allegations of torture were ignored, and she was denied the opportunity to defend herself during her trial.

Verisheh Moradi, another Kurdish woman aged 39, was likewise sentenced to death following an unfair trial. Her claims of being tortured were never investigated, and her appeal is still pending.

Iranian authorities continue to use the death penalty as a tool of repression, especially targeting women human rights defenders who dare to speak out.
