Free West Papua campaign Auckland joined weekly rally for Palestine in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland was led by the Free West-Papua movement, drawing connections between the liberation struggles of Falastin and West Papua.
The people of West Papua have been struggling for freedom from Indonesia’s colonial rule, a struggle that has been ongoing since 1963. Their quest for self-determination reflects a deep desire for dignity and autonomy, as they seek to reclaim their identity and rights.

The situation is truly heartbreaking. Over 700,000 civilians have been killed by the Indonesian military. Many others have suffered unimaginable trauma through experiences of rape, torture, or have simply vanished without a trace.
Racism and discrimination are widespread, leaving many individuals feeling marginalised and voiceless. Basic human rights, including the fundamental freedom of speech, are often suppressed, leading to a tragic environment for many. It’s particularly troubling to note that countless political prisoners endure lengthy sentences simply for courageously expressing their beliefs and hopes for a better future.
